Leading by example

Knowledge can often be found in the nursery, and is almost always holding a baby during worship services.

It takes a village to raise a child, and we are so thankful for the incredible staff at Kuda Vana who put their heart and soul into their work. Uncle Knowledge has been Kuda Vana’s Assistant Administrator since 2017. Knowledge is an incredibly positive and enthusiastic role model for the children at Kuda Vana. He does his work with a smile, and always looks for ways to improve things for the children’s benefit.

Knowledge usually works on the weekends, giving our Administrator time off to spend with his wife and children. He assists with office duties, communicating with Social Services, financials and visiting the group homes. He also oversees all weekend activities including Friday night worship, Bible Study, the church service, working in the gardens, hikes and outings, the occasional Saturday night movie, and organizing and participating in games and sporting activities. In addition to his regular duties, Knowledge can often be found in the gardens working right alongside the children or in the garage helping our maintenance workers. He will get up early to count the eggs that have been gathered before they are taken to market to be sold.  He also helps in the primary school whenever he can find a spare minute.

Knowledge is a firm believer in the power of education. The youngest of 11 children, he worked hard to help provide for his family while also excelling in school. Despite many hardships, Knowledge earned a Bachelors degree in Accounting, and most recently worked with Youth Advocates Zimbabwe where he worked in finance and administration.

When asked about his work, Knowledge says:

What I enjoy most at Kuda Vana is spending time with the children. That’s what gets me out of bed in the morning. I am here as a brother, as a father, and as a friend to the children. I am helping them grow physically, mentally, socially and spiritually.

Knowledge takes his role as a spiritual leader very seriously and prepares talks each weekend to address children at all age levels. He did a special series on kindness and spends a lot of time helping the children to appreciate what they have and to think about what they might have to give to others. He also taught the children that no matter how old we are, we have things that we can still learn and to open our minds to always be looking for new ways to learn.

Kuda Vana would not exist without incredible people like Uncle Knowledge. We are so thankful for his dedication and servant’s heart. He is a shining example to each child in our care. Knowledge teaches by example that a grateful heart, hard work, perseverance, love for Jesus and a positive attitude are the ingredients for a happy life.

Uncle Knowledge loves to plan hikes and outings for the children at Kuda Vana.
