Kuda Vana Children’s Home

NOT YOUR TYPICAL ORPHANGE

Kuda Vana’s thoughtfully designed campus near Mutare, Zimbabwe provides a safe, family-oriented environment for up to 50 children ages 0-17. Orphaned and vulnerable children are placed into Kuda Vana’s care by Zimbabwe Social Services, and reside in four family-style group homes and a nursery. Our campus includes a worship center, playground, primary school, library and sustainable farm.

Kuda Vana Children’s Home is meant to be the last option for a child. This video explains why this process has broken down in Zimbabwe, and in many other impoverished countries.

We know that residential care is not best for kids. Research shows that children growing up in institutional care are 10x more likely to fall into sex work, 40x more likely have a criminal record and 500x more likely to commit suicide. There is a better way, and that is the FAMILY PROGRAM.

In the meantime, Kuda Vana Children’s Home provides unparalleled love, care and education to children who need it most. We employ a full-time psychologist to help address the trauma and emotional wounds every child has experienced. Our caregivers are provided with annual trauma-informed parenting trainings. Kuda Vana is truly Not Your Typical Orphanage.

Kuda Vana is different than other similar organizations in that it provides holistic, wrap-around care. The staff offer love and acceptance within a family group that provides for basic needs, including educational, spiritual, and emotional. It continues to support with vocational training when other organizations would put them out to fend for themselves. I am proud to support this work.

The best way to empower our children is to give them an education, we must enable them to help themselves
